Casa Carvajal

This is a work of the Spanish architect Francisco Javier Carvajal Ferrer. The work was carried out in 1996 and the architect carried it out as the project for his own home, a real project challenge. Regarding the location, the house is located in Somosaguas, Madrid.

Regarding the architectural style, there is no doubt seeing the images that it belongs to brutalism. This style is one of my favorites, perhaps that is why I have chosen this architect (one of the best spanish brutalism). Even so, it seems to me a super inspiring work that goes far beyond its style.

It is when you study the work, when you realize the great value it has. In the reflections of the blog you will see my attraction to brutalism and arab architecture, but what does this second style have to do with it? Well, the architect was inspired by, nothing more and nothing less than, the Alhambra in Granada. This is reflected in the two interior patios that the house has and several fountains with ceramics that transport you to that mystical and spiritual setting of Al-Andalus.

To finish with the explanation of the work, it is worth highlighting a couple of details of the project that characterize it and give it that touch of identity that makes it, in my opinion, something different and beautiful. well, the whole house consists of a single floor and not only that, but seen from the outside it has an abnormal height, being somewhat lower than what is usually seen. It also tries to make it as diaphanous as possible, playing with corners, unevenness and the aforementioned patios to achieve that independence of rooms, avoiding partition walls.
